A friend of mine posted this on facebook and I have a big beef with it and all the comments on the page it came from. People complain about Christians pulling random stuff out of the bible out of context. I agree, that’s not the way to go. But then non Christians do the same, claim to know our bible better than us (some might) and it’s suddenly this brilliant smack against God?

I don’t have any real schooling in Bible history or theology, but let me just as my 2 cents as a christian who learns about this stuff at church.

The first 4 they don’t even really argue against, they just write them off as “disturbing”. The first one is to make sure we put our complete trust in the one who made us. It’s kind of hard to claim this big guy is the one true Lord and our Saviour if you put him on hold for other gods whether they be actual religious deities or something you covet. Same thing goes with the second one. If you have God, you don’t need to idolize anything else. They’ll all fail you someway or another eventually. God won’t. Third one is respect, don’t go using the name of the creator of the universe lightly. Fourth one, I’ll admit I’m not sure how to address it in today’s day and age. But it’s meant to remind us to keep our eyes on God and to be thankful for all he’s done.

Number 5 I’ve heard that question many times, from myself too. But the key here is that honor is very different from simply submitting. It’s showing respect, whether they truly deserve it or not. You can honor your parents without letting them hurt you.

Number 7. If your spouse is abusive, you get out of that relationship. God doesn’t want you stuck with someone who obviously isn’t looking out for your well being. That being said, if the relationship is good and safe, then the couple should work hard to continue that relationship. Sleeping around when you’ve pledged your life to be with someone else hardly seems good for said relationship.

And number 10. Yes it’s not going to be easy to manage this one. But guess what, THAT’S TRUE FOR ALL OF THEM. It’s HARD. That doesn’t mean you should toss it out the window as a bad idea though.

Are people going to break these rules? HELL YEAH. Does that mean they’re crap rules. NOT AT ALL. You should try your best, because the rules are set in place to make life better in the long run.

I am perfectly fine with people not agreeing or believing in God. That is your own and personal choice. I am fine with people living by their own guidelines that do not follow christian guidelines.

I am not okay with people bashing my religion and picking and choosing items from it and calling them off as they deem. If you don’t agree with Christianity fine, but don’t go slandering our beliefs.

And for those who would argue that since it’s a majority religion it can’t truely be hurt by your words. It can, and in the least it hurts the individuals who are a part of it. Besides, I’m not sure Christianity is even the majority anymore.

For those of you who would then argue that Christians have been giant asses to other beliefs and people throughout history and even today. Well yeah, you’re right. SOME PEOPLE TAKE THINGS TOO FAR. That’s not actually what our religion promotes. Those are just very very misled people. Besides, will being an ass to someone just because they’re an ass suddenly make them a wonderful person? Nope.

I’m open for discussion, just had to get this off my chest.

People forget, when immigrants come to this country they start from scratch. They could have been lawyers in their home country, but in the US..it means nothing. You think a HS diploma from Bangladesh means anything in this country? My mom was a top student in the country, went to all the best school and got the best of everything…but when she got here it meant squat and she was cleaning other people’s homes and scrubbing their toilets. This is why I get pissed of when people talk smack about immigrants. They at least are doing something…..heading for a goal..making sacrifices…what are you doing with your life?

^ My parents were college-educated teachers in their home country and came to the U.S. with nothing but empty pockets, a dash of hope, and a belief in God. They also scrubbed toilets in people’s homes to make enough to provide for their children, and that’s probably not something a lot of educated professionals would be able to do. I know I wouldn’t be able to do it. Pride would get in the way.

Yep, this is a familiar story for a lot of people. My mom came to the States with her degree which meant nothing here and started off cleaning houses for white folk, babysitting their kids, then started doing fucking construction work and etc etc.

Now she has a doctorate in sexology, is a licensed marriage and family therapist, is a psychology professor at a college and is an academic counselor ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT!!

I definitely think people who are immigrants, especially those who migrated with their parents like me, are more appreciative of their parent’s hardwork and have a better drive to succeed because life isn’t given to us on a silver platter.

I mean sure we can still be a bit spoiled but we know better that working hard means you can play hard than anyone else, really.
